V!
**TICKETS ON-SALE THIS FRIDAY: 9AM 3rd
MARCH 2006**
If ever there was a reason for music
fans to clear their diaries for Friday 3rd March at 9am, it’s
because V Festival organisers have just announced four more great
acts for this years 11th annual V Festival, sponsored by Virgin
Mobile.
Today, hot names Hard-Fi, Rufus
Wainwright, Kubb and Gavin DeGraw have confirmed their
appearance alongside headliners Radiohead, Morrissey and Faithless –
not to mention Kasabian, Fatboy Slim and Magic Numbers. All are set
to grace one of the four stages at the legendary V Festival, which
on 19th-20th August, returns to Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston
Park, Staffordshire.
Fans are warned to have their handsets
at the ready, when tickets go on sale from 9am, this Friday (3rd
March). Ticket prices are £120 for weekend with camping, £100 for
weekend without camping, £58.50 for day tickets and £40 for camper

Festival Director Bob Angus
commented:
“The response to this years headliners
and the first round of confirmed acts has been great. This is
testament to our commitment to signing the cream of the crop –
whether industry veterans or faces of the future. Hard-Fi certainly
made their mark in 2005, and we know they are headed for even
greater things in 2006, which is why we are delighted to have them
on board.’
Risk-takers both in life and in music,
Hard-Fi are something entirely new – merging disco with punk
and dub. Hard-Fi speak to the heart of the soul of young Britain
and have been lauded in well respected industry circles as one of
the best new band of 2005. With a debut single that was
showered with ‘Track of the Week’ plaudits, and Zane Lowe
pronouncing the second single as ‘the hottest record in the world
today,’ the band are without a doubt on fire and a welcome addition
to the V Festival 2006 line up.
Rufus Wainwright, the son of
singer / songwriter Loudon Wainwright III and folk singer Kate
McGarrigle, will be making his debut appearance at V this year. He
spent most of 2004 touring Europe and the US, cementing his position
as a truly dynamic and thrilling live performer. The critical
reception to his self-titled debut album was overwhelming and earned
him the ‘New Artist of The Year’ title from Rolling Stone Magazine.
Kubb will be making a second
appearance at V this year, after their debut in 2005. Born in
Liverpool and raised in Tobago and then Cornwall, the band’s singer
Harry Collier started his foray into the world of music, playing
recorder, clarinet and classical guitar in a wind band. Today,
alongside band members Dom Greensmith (ex Reef member), John Tilley
and Adj Buffoni, the band are known for making tunes that…you can
hang your summer T-shirt on.
A 25 year old, singer, songwriter,
pianist and guitarist, Gavin DeGraw is already well known to
New York clubgoers. In a remarkably short time, his effortlessly
intimate and emotionally intense live performances have made him the
toast of Manhattan’s downtown music scene. A definite ‘one to
watch’ Gavin DeGraw comes to V fresh from releasing his first album
Chariot.

Festival Director Bob Angus commented:
“We’re very proud to be presenting Radiohead, one of the most
important bands in live music today, as headliners for this year’s
V. To secure Morrissey, a man that has influenced so many great
artists, as the other main stage headliner ensures yet another
excellent V line up. It’s acts like these that give our festival
its unique eclectic feel and keeps our audience coming back for
more, we are expecting tickets will fly out!”
Radiohead will headline the main stage at Hylands Park,
Chelmsford on Saturday 19th August and Weston Park, Staffordshire on
Sunday 20th August. The legendary five-piece headed up by Thom Yorke
met at school in Oxford back in 1988. The V stage will be rocked to
life by the three-guitar attack from the band who are currently
holed up in the studio with producer Mark 'Spike' Stent, recording
brand new material for release this year.
Morrissey is one of the most influential figures in
alternative rock rising from his days in The Smiths to an amazing
solo career, and as a main stage headliner, he will play opposite
days to Radiohead in his first visit to the festival. 2006 sees the
release of his eighth solo record ‘Ringleader of the Tormentors’,
out on April 3rd. Fans can expect to hear a mix of his emotionally
charged material, a set not to be missed.
Rollo Armstrong and Sister Bliss, more commonly known as
Faithless, will be celebrating their fifth appearance at the V
Festival this year and will be co-headlining with Morrissey. Also
celebrating their 11th year together, the internationally acclaimed
duo will be sure to get fans’ heads, hearts and feet moving to their
classic dance sounds.
Beck, the most innovative man in
rockpopsouldancehiphopcountry(!), will be making his second
appearance at V this year – his debut was seven years ago in 1997.
2005 saw Beck releasing his critically acclaimed album ‘Guero’ – his
first in three years, which saw a return to his eclectic roots.
School friends from Leicester, Kasabian are also making their
first trip to V this year. With a mind blowing 2005 under their
belts, 2006 looks set to be even bigger for the rock ‘n’ roll four
piece consisting of guitars, electro-noise and pure attitude.
Pushing the limits has always been the musical philosophy of Paul
Weller. From his time with The Jam - still for many the most
inspirational group of the last thirty years - through to the pop
genius of The Style Council, to his ever-evolving solo career, he
has always made a point of keeping ahead of the throng. Now with a
new generation of bands inspired by his music and mindset, Paul
Weller has, without a doubt, earned his stripes – proven further
still by his recent 2006 BRIT Award for Outstanding Contribution to
British Music.
Tom Chaplin, Tim Rice-Oxley and Richard Hughes formed Keane
in 1997 at school in Sussex. They performed their first gig in 1998,
signed a record deal and performed at V in 2003; released their
debut album ‘Hopes & Fears’ in 2004 and went on to conquer the world
with a voice, a piano and a set of drums.
Editors started 2005 with their debut single, ‘Bullets’,
selling out within five hours of release. Through the year, the
bands constant touring schedule led to a string of Top 20 singles
whilst 2006 saw them start with a Top 10 single in the form of a
reissued ‘Munich’. Debut album ‘The Back Room’ (July 2005)
re-entered the UK album charts and climbed to a peak of Number two,
which also saw the band replace their gold discs with platinum
discs. Editors are well and truly on fire.
Groove Armada is one of the most critically acclaimed bands
to emerge from dance music and this year they’re are back for their
fourth appearance at the V Festival. With influences of jazz, funk,
house rhythms and technology, their music combination is a hit
around the world. They’ve remixed for the best and have been
performing sell out gigs for nearly 10 years.
With the accolade of being asked to support Franz Ferdinand in 2003
- before having even released a single record, Bloc Party,
made up of Kele Okereke, Gordon Moakes, Russell Lissack and Matt
Lang have since proved their worth. In 2005, the band gained a
Mercury Music Prize nomination for their debut album ‘Silent Alarm’,
a record that was also voted NME Album Of The Year. Bring on their
2006 V Festival debut!
Renowned DJ, Norman Cook, AKA Fatboy Slim will also be making
his V debut. Having progressed from Housemartin to superstar DJ,
Cook is sure to deliver a party vibe that is guaranteed to rock the
V masses.
Formed in 1989, The Charlatans have become a vital force in
music since their top ten second release ‘The Only One I Know’ which
was a perennial Nineties favourite. Since then The Charlatans have
released a series of enormously successful albums. 2006 will see the
band add to their impressive catalogue with ‘Simpatico’ set for
release on 17th April, to an expectant fanbase, ready to see the
band once again step up and take on the world.
The Ordinary Boys began with the kind of jaw dropping impact
that they have continued to employ throughout two albums and
innumerable tours. Debut single, ‘Maybe Someday’ was acclaimed by
NME as "The first great single of the year" and the four piece from
Worthing spent 2004 touring to an ever growing and fanatical
'Ordinary Army'. Debut album ‘Over The Counter Culture’ went gold
and the band played with hero Morrissey before returning to the
studio to record and release second album ‘Brassbound’ in June 2005
- a mere eleven months after their debut. With ‘Brassbound’ now
hurtling towards platinum, The Ordinary Boys find themselves on top
of the world.
Can a band in their mid-twenties be accurately described as
veterans? Perhaps not, but Starsailor are, whatever their
birth certificates might claim to the contrary. With a depth to
their sound, their songwriting, and purpose, which attests to the
benefits of stepping out of the limelight and into a less hysterical
creative environment, Starsailor have proved themselves again and
again. Classics ‘Lullaby’ and ‘Silence is Easy’ are proof of the
quartets impressive back-catalogue and their critically acclaimed
third album ‘On the Outside’ - released last October – is proof of
their continued reign. The band return to V in 2006 after a 2003
debut performance on the NME stage.
2005 was a fun packed year for The Magic Numbers. Not only
have they seen their self titled debut album go platinum after
spending 20 weeks in the UK top 30; they have also been nominated
for the Mercury Music Prize and had ‘Love Me Like You’ voted
Soundtrack Of The Year by Virgin Radio.
The Feeling are five twenty somethings from Sussex and London
who love pop music. Great big no-nonsense, hook-filled
giant-chorused pop music – music for the masses, with sunshine hooks
and killer choruses that everyone can hum, from plumbers to
professors. The Feeling are pop and proud. They’re on a mission to
reclaim the term.
