Taking Good Club Photos
Printer Friendly Page
essexuncovered.com's club photos may not win any photography awards, but for
the best photos there are some pointers that will help you take not only better
club photos, but ensure the site visitors will get exactly what they want.
We have been taking photos on essexuncovered for over 4 years. With thousands
of photos under our belts we can help you take a better club photo for
essexuncovered.com
Portrait or landscape?
Generally, if you are taking photos of 1 or 2 people together then portrait
is better. If there are three or more a landscape photo will produce a better
result.

This photo would have been better taken landscape and cropped right in with
the tops of the heads at the top of the photo. |

When there are several people in the photo then landscape is the preferred
option. |

With 1 or 2 people in the photo the portrait is normally the best choice.
This photo taken landscape would mean there is a lot of background and not
as much foreground. |
Good Framing
Taking photos with your digital camera in the daytime is easy. You can see
the subject through the viewfinder. When you are in a nightclub the viewfinder
is probably going to be a black square. We have found if the lights are
flashing, you can normally make out the tops of the subjects head. It is better
to crop a bit from the top of their head rather than have loads of space at the
top of the photo.

In this photo the photographer has taken a lot of blank space above their
heads. |

The cropping for this photo would have been better in closer without any
ceiling space. Use the flashing of the nightclub lights to find the tops of
their heads in your viewfinder and make sure this is lined up in your camera
to be the top of the photo. |
Quality / Camera Resolution
Almost all of today's modern cameras will be good enough quality to use for
club website photography. Our preferred minimum pixel size is 1280 x 960 pixels
(pix, px or points) taken in fine mode. If you are not sure what image size your
camera is taking then put one of the photos on to your computer and open in your
imaging software and got the size menu to find out the dimensions. As long as it
is 1280 x 960 or lager then the photo will be big enough. Too big and the photos
will fill up loads of room on the camera. As a file size guide each photo waken
with the setting as above will be approximately 500 - 600 kb. If they are coming
in at 1000 kb+ then you may wish to reduce the file size to save room on your
memory card.
Getting photos on to CD
May places will now take the chip from your camera and put straight on to a
CD for you if you do not have the options to do this yourself. Don't worry about
paying for this service, just keep the receipt so essexuncovered.com can refund
you. We pay for the CD on top of your night out! (see below for info)
